ABOUT THE PHOTOS:
The images displayed and available for purchase are real photographs. Real in the sense that they are the integration of hundreds of photographs on very dim and distant objects in space. Images that are produced in Red, Green, and Blue, or “Broadband”, are essentially how the human eye would see these objects; that is, if we could hold our eyes open for many hours and then have our brains integrate all the data into an image. Thankfully, we have computers and software that help in the processing of these data.
The processing of photographs into these images is a science and art. Photographs are taken with a monochrome camera (black and white) with filters to produce color images. The operation of telescope and camera hardware, weather conditions, and late nights, add to the difficulty of image production.
Photographs are commonly taken from Sierra Remote Observatories located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The dark skies and good seeing conditions make it possible to resolve the smallest details of space objects. Photographs are also taken from various locations in Oregon and Washington.
BIO
C. Jonas Moiel is an Astrophotographer, Environmental Scientist,
and longtime fan of science fiction. His passion for space began as a child,
learning about the solar system in good-old encyclopedias, stargazing, and
looking through a telescope in grade school. Spending nights stargazing with
his father, he learned several constellations, that his dad still points out
every clear night they are together. His mother took him to the opening night
showing of Return of the Jedi in 1983 at age 6; and proceeded to help him
collect the most difficult to find Star Wars figures. His passion for space
grew from there.
HYPERSPACE
hy·per·space/ˈhīpərˌspās/ Noun
Travel at a rate faster than light, warping time, bending dimensional space, utilizing parallel universes.
ABOUT OUR FUTURE
The universe is our playground! We the people, earthlings,
humans, have a home on a one and a billion planet. A planet with just
the right chemistry, gravity, and position from our sun, our Sol, to
have a complex and delicate ecosystem. A place to evolve, a place to thrive, a place to grow.
Growth has its consequences. Growth pushes the limits of
balance, throws off the yang. Growth causes change, mortality, and mutation. Mutation is what made us who we are today, a species with selected genetics over time. Earth is the beginning of our story…
Earth is our mother, we should protect her at all cost, but it’s time to move out of the house, to expand, to explore.
Is science fiction becoming non-fiction? Earth is not the end of our story; we are headed to the stars.
SPACE TRAVEL
Using terrestrial based telescopes, we can explore the
cosmos. Traveling thousands, millions and even billions of years back in time, we can learn about our future from the distant past. We can plan our future vacations, find that dream home, or just take in the views.
