Print- Elephant in the Sky with Diamonds
A supernova remnant in a sea of gas and dust! This is supernova remnant G108.2-0.6 which is located in the Cepheus constellation, in close proximity to the Wizard nebula. This region of the sky had not been photographed deeply until 2023. I teamed up with Anirudh Shastry (@starman_astro) to collect over 167 hours of photographs of this region with the hope of showing more depth than had ever been captured by photographers!
This collaborative image incorporates both of our photos and image calibration and integration was done by Ani. This is my version of processing the final image.
This image is the integration of 1,348 photographs, totaling over 167 hours of exposure time! Photos were taken between July and September, 2024 from Sierra Remote Observatories in California. Photographs were captured with Luminance, Red, Green and Blue filters to highlight the reflection nebula, and with a Hydrogen alpha and Oxygen iii filters for the surrounding gas.
